Counseling and Guidance in Liberty

Rationale:
The counseling curriculum in Liberty Public School provides our students with opportunities to make responsible decisions now, and in the future, in a knowledgeable, thoughtful and resilient manner. LPS counselors guide students through sequential units that allow for practice and feedback on decision making skills that students will use in all aspects throughout life.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COUNSELING . . . WHAT IS IT?
Elementary school years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent, and confident learners. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, school counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents, and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. The goals of the comprehensive developmental school counseling program are met primarily through classroom lessons - using guidance curriculum and class meetings - individual and small group counseling, and collaboration with parents and teachers. By providing education, prevention, early identification, and intervention, school counselors help remove barriers to learning and promote academic achievement. The knowledge, attitudes, and skills that students acquire in the areas of academic, career, and personal/social development during the elementary years serve as the foundation for future success. In short, school counselors are student advocates who strive to ensure that students become effective lifelong learners and that the school environment provides a positive and successful learning experience for all.

How do we accomplish this?

Liberty Elementary School Counselors work to meet the social, emotional and academic needs of our students in a number of ways. Through classroom lessons, we teach a variety of skills.
