Fourth Grade PEAK

Curriculum

THEME STUDY:

During this time, students develop their information processing, communication, creative, and critical thinking skills. Students will investigate problem solving by examining a world problem and creating a public service campaign to generate awareness about the problem.

PERSONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

The teacher will lead discussions and activities to help students function in groups, effectively interact with others, and strengthen their personal problem solving skills.

ACTIVITY AREAS

TOPIC STUDY

Topic study time gives each child a chance to explore subjects of interest. Students choose from a wide variety of subjects in the arts, sciences, and literature. After reading about the topic, the student uses the information to complete activities at the different levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

MATH
The students apply their problem solving skills through a series of problems called, fittingly enough, Problemoids. The fourth grade book presents a problem and then four follow-up problems using the same strategy. Students may choose whether or not to do the final two problems. Options are available for students who need more support or challenge.

SCIENCE
Fourth grade science emphasizes the scientific method as well as technical reading as they work with consumer product testing.
